Kathleen is an experienced and popular presenter, who encourages and inspires her audiences to gain a greater appreciation for the power of stories to help them tap into their own creativity and to discover how literacy skills are linked to life skills.  She has been invited to speak on a variety of literacy related topics to audiences of all ages at schools, libraries, and church groups, as well as at literacy conferences, teachers’ workshops, university classes, and fundraisers. The Art and Heart
of the Picture Book

K-1st grade - 20 MINUTES SESSION
Kathleen begins by sharing with children what an author and illustrator do, how she gets her ideas for her books, and a little bit about the writing process. She finishes up with a reading of her book and a Q and A.  She will also leave teachers with a follow up activity sheet.

Picture Book as Prayer

1st - 2nd Grade - 30 MINUTES SESSION
Kathleen will begin with by sharing how she became an author and how she gets her ideas for her books. Using examples from many of her picture books, she will show what a picture book and prayer have in common. She will finish up with a Q and A, which will include some tips on the writing process.

Kathleen will share her writer’s “roots”—exploring how her childhood in Scotland and Ireland led to her becoming a writer, a reader, a teller and a listener of stories. She will finish with some tips on how to keep your writer’s roots nourished and watered.
